My name is Joellen Vohlken. I am a middle aged, middle class working Mom (oops, Grandma) from middle America, that always wished she could work from home. But, like many others, I didn't think I had any talent that would support a home-based business. The need for money kept me working outside the home full time. Funny, how my love for baking had never occurred to me as a way to work from home. I still need to keep my full-time, big girl job........but, someday, I hope to realize my dream of working from home.
I pride myself on offering a quality product, and, strive to provide something special that will sweeten the memory of your event. You will be impressed by the packaging, awed by the design and delighted at the taste of everything I create. The most important ingredient in any of my creations is YOU.
Jo Mama clients come from all walks of life, with all sorts of requests. Some clients are very detailed in their wishes, others don't know where to start. I appreciate the diversity in the people I serve, and, enjoy the challenges each brings my way. I am blessed to be asked to take part in so many special life events, and, I take that very seriously. Whether, it be wedding favors, a first birthday cake or team treats for a little league ball team, I cherish them all.
How Jo Mama's Came to Be
My youngest son wanted to go on a summer trip with his youth group, and, there just wasn't enough money to make it happen. The church held a bake sale to raise funds, and, I sent some of my cut-out sugar cookies. They sold well, so, I thought if I sold a few more at a yard sale I was having, we would have enough money for Chance to go on the trip. Well.......my co-workers found out I was selling cookies, and, they bought all I had made for the yard sale. For the next few days, people kept asking if I would make more for them to buy. Hey, why wouldn't I? I thought people would tire of my cookies after a while, and, I'd be done. But, then a co-worker asked me to make her little brother's birthday cake. Their mother had passed just a few months before, and, I couldn't say no. That was the beginning of my little home baking business in May 2005. As customers have asked for me to do new and different things, my product line has grown. I worked in the grocery industry for 20 years, but, the closest I ever was to the bakery, was bagging doughnuts. I have always loved to bake, but, have never had formal training. I am self taught, but, my work speaks for itself.
